Next Door Neighbors Puppet Program
Sponsoring department: Community Education Working with community partners, an
interactive puppet program focuses on presentation of scripts that promote a message
of alternatives to violence to children grades 3-5. Six sets of puppets are placed
with community groups for local presentations. Original curriculum provides activities
for classroom teachers to use before and after puppet presentations
Kids are Great
Sponsoring department: Community Education
One-hour presentation for elementary and middle school age children on the importance of
self esteem and feeling good about yourself. Interactive activities and exercises help
children explore how they see and understand their strengths as individuals.
Health Career Day
Sponsoring department: Community Education and Kids Caring and Sharing Program
Special visits to Riley Hospital for Children are offered twice each year for children in
grades 8-12 to help them explore career possibilities in public health, medicine, nursing,
allied health, and related areas of child development. Riley Hospital staff members conduct
presentations on their education preparation, career paths, and job responsibilities.

Water Wise
Sponsoring department: Community Education
Resources include a large floor mat water safety game available for loan to preschool and
kindergarten classrooms and an instructional PowerPoint presentation on water safety
equipment and water safety directed for elementary school age children.
Safety Smart
Sponsoring department: Community Education
Information sheets on 14 topics are available to guide children and adults on how to
prevent leading causes of unintentional child injury. Camera-ready copies are available
by request.
Marion County Fatality Review Team
Participating department: Community Education
Provide development support for education materials that assist the team in addressing
leading causes of child fatality in Marion County. Materials are created in camera-ready
and disk format for all team members to encourage widespread printing and dissemination.
