The Riley Family Education Center will support Riley Hospital for Children's commitment to families and their care. Family-Centered Care is the belief that the patient and family relationship is essential in providing a nurturing environment where the patient is part of the family and the family is part of the care team. The goal of the Riley Family Education Center is to foster and facilitate the independence of our patients and families. Education helps make that goal a reality. Families will actively participate in the education process by providing a complete history, learning new skills, making care decisions and partnering with the staff to provide a safe environment for the patient. Such collaboration only improves patient and family satisfaction and care. It can be stressful for families to have a hospitalized loved one. Knowing they will need to take over the care once the patient returns home can be overwhelming. The staff of the Riley Family Education Center will teach patients and their family members how to care for their loved ones - with competence and confidence. The Riley Family Education Center will provide a personalized teaching environment away from the interruptions that often occur at the bedside. Classes are offered in one of two classrooms or a "mock" patient room. Instructors teach the classes and work with patients and their families so they can begin to develop the skills they will need to care for their loved ones at home. Classes are offered at scheduled times. Location:Main hallway of the Family Resource Center How to Make a Referral/Register for a Class:
