There are three Board Certified Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeons who operate at Riley Hospital for Children, Dr. John W. Brown, Dr. Mark W. Turrentine, and Dr. Mark D. Rodefeld. These physicians are highly trained and experienced in the care of children with all types of congenital heart defects. Dr. Brown, Dr. Turrentine and Dr. Rodefeld work in very close conjunction with eight pediatric cardiologists at Riley Hospital and other pediatric cardiologists throughout the state. John W. Dr. Brown is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a professor of surgery and has served as the Chief of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Section at Indiana University School of Medicine since 1990 and is the Surgical Director of Clarian Health Cardiovascular Services. Dr. Turrentine received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He underwent training in General Surgery at the University of Kansas - Wichita and completed a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Indiana University. He gained additional experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute/St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas. In addition, Dr. Turrentine completed fellowship training in both pediatric and adult Cardiac and Pulmonary Transplantation at the Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Turrentine is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
